Blogger Recognition Award: the Visually Impaired/Blind Edition

A bit of a different post today. I was nominated a couple weeks ago by Sophie at The Life of Sophie to participate in the Blogger Recognition Award. She has a fantastic blog dedicated to changing traditional perceptions of disability, so go check that out when you’re finished here!

So today, instead of preaching about amazing taxi services, recounting anecdotes, or handing out advice that nobody asked for, I thought I’d take a stab at acknowledging some other bloggers for a change. I know it sounds dull but please read on – I went to great efforts to round up some of the best bloggers out there who are really repping the VI / blind community.

Blogger Recognition Award Rules:

  • Produce a post about the award.
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a brief story about how your blog began.
  • Provide two pieces of advice to newbie bloggers.
  • Select a number of blogs to nominate.
  • Comment on each nominee’s blog and provide a link to the post you made about the award.

Why I started my blog:

This blog exists because I want to share my unique perspective of being a visually impaired graduate. I want to demonstrate that being registered blind does not have to prevent you from living a full, fun and exciting life.

Also, my family and friends are sick to death of my stories so I thought I’d ramble on the internet instead.

Advice for newbie bloggers:

I don’t really feel in a position to give advice seeing as I have produced a grand total of six blogs so far… But nevertheless, I would say:

  1. Find your theme / niche and stick to it.
  2. Take time to include tags and links to get more eyes on your blog.

My nominations:

I have decided to nominate 8 fellow VI / blind bloggers, who all publish hugely informative and entertaining content. All of them have something a bit different to offer and I would personally recommend you go check them out using the links provided in their names.
